Who Am I
Hi I’m Michelle Thompson, founder of She Will Rise. I am more than a survivor of domestic violence—I am a warrior. Growing up in an environment shaped by domestic violence and later facing similar challenges as an adult, I understand the journey ahead of heartbreak, fear, and courage that comes with rebuilding a new life and creating a new you and from the ground up.
My experiences and my Faith have become my greatest fortitude and strength, After a workplace incident in 2022 my journey paved way for me to step into my purpose and sparked a new sense of courage and deep desire to walk alongside other women as they embark on their own new beginning. I am passionate about supporting women as they navigate complex challenges, to renew, store and rebuild their self-worth and recognise their God given value. With 20 years of professional experience and training I have worked alongside some of our most vulnerable communities in aged care, disability, and mental health. I bring a unique perspective, that blends personal experience of domestic violence, ongoing professional development and a deep level of understanding and compassion to my work.
Like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, we all go through stages of transition and transformation that can open a door to new beginnings. I believe that every woman impacted by Domestic Violence has the strength and ability to rise above it, by first understanding the hidden parts of domestic Violence, with patience and time. Moving forward from domestic violence is achievable when you have the right supports, a sense of community and commitment to progress over perfection.
She Will Rise is built on five core values:
Resilience – Recognising her strength through adversity.
Authenticity – Creating genuine, honest connections.
Empowerment – Celebrating her independence and confidence.
Respect – Honouring her unique journey and identity.
Strength – Acknowledging her courage and perseverance.
I envision a world where every woman feels safe, valued, and free from fear. Together, She Will Rise
The Maze of Confusion
Annette Oltman and founder of The Mend Project endured years of abuse in her marriage. The original harm she experienced was compounded further when she experienced spiritual and institutional abuse in her community. This story, like many other women vividly illustrates the complex and layered nature of Domestic Violence.
